HCG Rise Day 4 MTX

Desperately seeking positive stories for MTX. I had the shot when my HCG was 633…day 4 results show it has gone up circa 30% to 827.

Has anyone had a similar increase but then gone on to have a drop day 7 and no need for a second shot?

Symptom wise I have had on and off light bleeding and a dull ache where the EP is since the shot but that is all. Diagnostic laparoscopy before MTX shot showed no rupture yet…

Dear Tilly,

It is very common for hCG to rise on day 4 bloods as the action of methotrexate isn’t instantaneous so the cells will have continued to divide for two or three days after the injection was given, and some cells release more hCG when they start to disappear. Your doctors are looking to see a drop in your hCG value of at least 15% between days four and seven. If there has not been a 15% drop, this is when the doctors will consider a second dose of methotrexate or surgery.

I hope.this helps reassure you a little. We have more information on methotrexate treatment on our website which I have added here.

We always advise to be mindful of your symptoms and if they worsen in any way, please seek urgent medical advice.

Sending much love,

Thank you-just to update for anyone reading for reassurance my levels did decrease on day 7 by 30%. Still a waiting game for them to go down completely and still bleeding but feeling slightly more hopeful.
