Has anyone had success with IVF after both tubes removed

Hi everyone,

I recently had a second ectopic and have lost both tubes now. IVF is our only option and I’m just curious to hear if anyone out there has a similar situation to mine and who has had success with IVF? I have no known fertility issues otherwise and the IVF doctor thinks we have good chances since I have healthy looking ovaries and good egg count… but we have to pay for it ourselves and I think I’d be naive if I didn’t consider the fact that we’re being “sold” a service here…

Hi Iskyla,

I’m so sorry to hear of everything you have been through. Suffering two ectopic pregnancies and losses is an incredibly difficult experience. I’m not medically qualified to comment on your specific situation, but encourage you to speak with your GP and medical providers about which routes may be available to you. We’ve had women in your situation post on the boards before, and you may find comfort in those posts (see the Board Trying to Conceive after an Ectopic Pregnancy). There remain risks of ectopic pregnancy with IVF treatment, but again, your medical providers would be best able to advise.

The trust has posted some guidance on getting pregnant with IVF: https://ectopic.org.uk/patients/trying-to-conceive/ (Assisted Conception). In 2010, the percentage of IVF treatments that resulted in a live birth (the success rate) was:

32.2% for women under 35

27.7% for women aged 35-37

20.8% for women aged 38-39

13.6% for women aged 40-42

5% for women aged 43-44

1.9% for women aged over 44

I’m certain others will be able to provide their own stories to provide additional information. Please know that we are here for you throughout your journey, and these boards are a safe space for you.

With good wishes,

Michele
