Going back to work 5 weeks after op

Hi, it’s my first time posting and i’ve wrote this out about 10 times! I’m 5 weeks post op after having my left tube removed back in March. Everything went with the surgery i’m feeling ok in my body but my mind is still getting processing what has happened. I was 7 weeks pregnant when I found out it was ectopic and we had only found out I was pregnant a week before. Now i’ve just started my cycle again and i’m about to go back to work after the weekend. I’m looking for some advice on how you felt going back to work, just feel like i’m getting a build up of anxiety with going back to work and my cycle starting again feels like a lot at once.

Hi,

I had an ectopic pregnacy in my right tube last summer. It ruptured so i had urgent surgery and tube removal. I went back to work after 2 weeks post surgery. Physically i was okay but mentally i was mess. I could not talk about my situation with colleagues. I cried, i was weak. I understand that everyone is different, but seems that your 5 weeks post surgery will be good for your mental status at work.
Wish you best,
Maiiriite

Dear Lou,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,
Some people find the emotional side of the ordeal, really impacts once the mind and body have moved from focusing on the physical recovery.
If you feel comfortable, you could speak to work about returning on reduced hours or changing roles slightly. If you feel you need more time off work, please speak to your GP surgery who will be able to arrange a FIT note for you. It can take up to 3 months to even begin to process traumatic events such as ectopic pregnancy so take things at your own pace and be kind to yourself and allow time to heal mentally.
We will be here for you for as long as you need,
Sending much love,
Karen x

Hi Lou,
I had ectopic pregnancy and left tube removal Feb 2025. I had 6 weeks off work and went back on reduced hours (which i still have for the next few weeks) this has helped me a lot in my journey. Having the reduced hours means i don’t have to “put a brave face on” for too long and having the extra time off helps massively with my mental health when we are going through the trauma we all have.
Is this something you could suggest for work? Reduced hours? Amended duties?

Thank you all, it was hard the first few days but all the staff have been amazing with me and given me the time when I need to go and have a moment, been a great support system.
I’m still having a bit anxiety, however today I had my first panic attack as I was feeling very
dizzy, shakey and felt as my heart was going to come out of my chest but the people I worked with help me so much to bring me out of it. I’ve reached out to my GP and they are going to send me for some counselling. I feel this would help me.
Sending love to you all
