Thank you so much !! And you have a great Christmas too  xxx

Dear Elephant,

As you have had methotrexate, it is important to wait until your hCG levels have reached pre-pregnancy levels before you start taking folic acid supplements as the folic acid can actually stop the methotrexate from working.

You should wait until your hCG levels have fallen to below 5mIU/mL (your doctor will advise you when this is through blood tests) and then take a folic acid supplement for 12 weeks before you try to conceive. This is because the Methotrexate may have reduced the level of folate in your body which is needed to ensure a baby develops healthily. The Methotrexate is metabolised quickly but it can affect the quality of your cells, including those of your eggs and the quality of your blood for up to three months after it has been given. The medicine can also affect the way your liver works and so you need to give your body time to recover properly before a new pregnancy is considered. A shortage of folate could result in a greater chance of a baby having a neural tube defect such as hare lip, cleft palate, or even spina bifida or other NT defects. This is why the “wait” and then taking folic acid for 12 weeks before trying to conceive is so important. I

I hope this helps clarify the information,

Sending much love,

Karen x

Thank you so much for sharing your experience!!! I’m going through the exact same thing right now and it is such a relief to know I am not alone. I have felt so worried, exhausted and scared over the last few weeks. I haven’t been offered methotrexate yet as they can’t see anything on the scan and the hcg is dropping on its own. I’m now down to 300 but have started to bleed over the last 3 days. It’s not super heavy, but it’s bright red. Really hoping this is all over soon xxx

Hi sunshine!

Sending you my love, I hope yours manages to resolve without intervention! Please keep us posted!

I don’t know about you, but I had NEVER heard of ectopic until I got pregnant! Made to think just under 2 months ago I was riding the newly engaged bliss thinking 2022 was the best year of my life followed by almost 2 months of absolute HELL!!

But in these 2 months I have connected with so many incredible women all battling the same or similar trauma right now, you’re far from alone and I’m here if you need to chat <3

I’ve just had my post Xmas blood follow up, a 10 day gap rather than my usual 7, and I’m at 124 down from 333. So still trending in the right direction but I really want the physical aspect to be over now so I can just focus on my mental health (which I know will improve if I can start going back to the gym without fear of rupture and death!)

I don’t know about you girls but that was honestly the worst Xmas ever! I cannot wait for 2023!!!

Hi Elephant+1

Same here, but by now I feel that I could write a dissertation on ectopic pregnancies the amount I have read over the last 5 weeks!!

It’s an awful feeling - anytime I feel a twinge or bit of pain I’m anxious that something bad is happening.

That’s great to hear that they have dropped. My bloods are now down to 133. Still falling which is a relief but still not out of the woods. I’m also still bleeding which is just a constant reminder :frowning:

Have you been bleeding whilst your hcg dropped?

I hope that we will be looking back soon at this as a very distant memory! sending you lots of strength xx

Hey!

Right?! I literally know so much about it now!

Yes I had my injection of MTX 29th Nov and I was bleeding from 6th Nov. It got heavier after MTX and then BAM nothing on the 9th Dec and I had absolutely nothing for an entire week and then THE HEAVIEST bleed of my entire life, like heavier than a period, I just woke up soaked through everything like wtf! I had small pains and dizziness so I was in A&E but they had no reason for the bleeding other than ‘every woman is different’ and sent me home. I bled for a week and stopped on 23rd Dec and so far (touch wood) I’m still not bleeding. But it’s horrible having to check every time I go to the loo, always expecting blood!

My nurse called today and I have a day 35 blood test on Tuesday so not waiting a full week, I would LOVE for it to be at like 70!!

So happy to hear your bloods are dropping nicely without intervention! Hopefully shortly after the new year we can put it behind us both xxxx
