Methatraxate

Hi I’m just wandering about people’s experiences with methotrexate I had the injection 10 days ago had day 4 and 7 blood work day four had gone up to 400 day 7 had coke down to 29o they was happy with that and now going to weekly bloods , I’ve had no pain or bleeding since Sunday so am worried it’s stopped working and Sunday seems so far away I just want all this over

My hcg went down most when I wasn’t bleeding as much. I had expectant management. Your body absorbs a lot. Just bc ur not bleeding doesn’t mean it won’t go down. I didn’t believe it tho when the doctors said lol

On thank you that’s what I’m finding strange like how can they go down if I’m not bleeding just praying for a drop on Sunday I just want to try and move on thanks for your reply

Hi. I am so sorry for your loss.

I had my 2nd ectopic conformed on Monday the 28/01/19. I had a shot of methotrexate yesterday. My HCG was 511. I am hoping that I don’t rupture. I am scared beyond belief of losing my last tube. How have you felt since having your shot?

Nadine

Sorry to you as well I felt awful after about 3 days then was bleeding heavy for few days now nothing I feel like I’m back to normal which kind of scares me , I’m just praying the medication works hope you are back to normal soon x

Dear Alisha1,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss.

The amount we bleed will depend upon the amount of endometrium (womb lining) was built up. If there wasn’t a lot, there won’t be a lot of bleeding. It sounds as if you bled heavily just after your injection. I on the other hand hardly bled at all straight away but started bleeding around a week later. We will all react slightly differently.

I am afraid it is difficult to predict how long it will take for your hormone levels reach non-pregnant levels. As we are all individual, our bodies respond differently to the drug and it depends on factors like how high levels reached and our unique physiology. What I can say is that it can take a number of weeks and, while it can take some time, it is not as invasive a procedure as surgery. It is also encouraging that your levels are falling although I appreciate that it can be a drawn out process. Also, in terms of chances of future successful pregnancies, studies do not show a significant difference between treatment routes, whether surgical, medical using methotrexate or expectant management (allowing time for the body to resolve the pregnancy itself).

Although I do not wish to alarm you, I do need to remind you to seek urgent medical advice with any worsening pain, sudden heavy bleeding, shoulder tip pain, feeling dizzy or unwell.

Please take things easy, and do not undertake any strenuous exercise or lifting or housework while your hCG levels are dropping.

Sending much love,

Karen x
