Ectopic pregnancy and first period

Hey, has anyone unfortunately been through an ectopic pregnancy and willing to talk about there experiences?

I fell pregnant September 2018 and had surgery at 6 weeks due to ectopic which ruptured my tube.

I bled for around a week after, and have recently had my “first period” but am confused as it was like my last period before I found out I was pregnant. Is this notmal?

Dear Tcxx91,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

Your periods can take a while to get back to a rhythm that is more usual for you. I also found that my periods changed for a few months after my losses.

The first period may be more painful or less so than usual, heavier or lighter, last for longer or shorter than usual – there really is no set pattern. You should be able to manage the discomfort with over-the-counter pain relief and should not be soaking a pad in less than an hour. If this is not the case, you should seek medical attention.

Sending much love,

Karen x

The first bleed was post partum bleeding. It’s your body’s way of returning to “normal”. Sorry for your loss love. I, too, found I was pregnant in September and experienced and ectopic pregnancy. I was a day short of being 8 weeks along when it ruptured. I’m 4 weeks post surgery and still waiting for my period to return. I hope your period adjusts and that you have time to heal physically and emotionally. Hugs from afar!
