Period 3 & 1/2 weeks after surgery

Hello just wondering if anyone has had the same experience as me?

I had an ectopic pregnancy just before Christmas, I am now four weeks after surgery. On Saturday, I had my first period since bleeding after the operation had stopped for about two weeks. Although this period doesn’t seem like normal, I have very heavy bleeding, but no other period pains or symptoms like I always had before. It has started 3 and 1/2 weeks after the surgery. Not even sure it’s a period or if it’s from surgery but like I said the bleeding after the surgery stopped 2 weeks ago.

Has this happened to anybody?

Is this normal for my first period?

Dear laura3],

Your periods can take a while to re-establish - they can re-start anything between two and ten weeks after surgery and most women find that their period arrives sometime around week six or seven after surgery, but this sounds like your first period.

The first period may be more painful or less so than usual, heavier or lighter, last for longer or shorter than usual – there really is no set pattern and they can take a few months to fall back to a pattern that it more usual for you.

Sending much love,

Karen x
