Ectopic pregnancy after termination

Hi

Firstly I want to apologise to anyone reading this that may find my post upsetting, I know that most of you have suffered the most painful terrible loss and therefore my experience is different.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced what I have and if they have any advice.

I found out I was pregnant in July and decided not to continue with the pregnancy as my family is already complete. I had a medical termination at home via the BPAS abortion pills by post. I thought the treatment had gone according to plan but the pregnancy test remained positive and I then developed lots of abdominal pains and bleeding and a scan revealed lots of free fluid in my pelvis and the consultant told me I have had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. I remained stable and was managed expectantly but I feel like I am really struggling mentally with what’s happened. I find myself not sleeping and have been suffering severe anxiety and a feeling of panic. I just wandered how long it takes for people to feel “normal” again and if anyone else had been through the same thing?

Thanks

Dear NR1986,

I am so sorry to hear of everything you are going through. Whether pregnancies are planned or not, ectopic pregnancy is a huge ordeal and you can lean on us for as long as you need.

When we experience ectopic pregnancy we are suddenly faced with a life threatening emergency and it’s treatment and this can be a very traumatic event. Your feelings are completely normal as It can take up to 3months to even begin to process events such as these. It is really early days in your road of recovery so for now, be kind to yourself and allow time to heal both physically and emotionally.

Sending much love,

Karen x
