Ectopic mass on scan post methotrexate

Hi all,

I’m posting this to maybe see if anybody has experienced anything similar with their ectopic, or if this is quite a rare thing to happen.

On January 31st I found out I was having an ectopic pregnancy, I would have been about 6 weeks pregnant. There was a small (10 x 14) mass seen in my left tube, so this was diagnosed as the location. After trying the expectant management for 2 weeks, they decided to give me the methotrexate injection (14th Feb) as my levels kept rising, going from 180 - 3800.

I am now 4 weeks post injection, my levels are now down at 10 which I thought was great and I could finally move on from this awful ordeal.

I had a scan today (my 5th scan since the beginning) along with my last blood test, the sonographer was puzzled as she pointed out that she could see a 21mm mass on my RIGHT tube. I explained that all my other scans had shown a small ectopic on the left and that nobody had ever pointed out anything on the right. I couldn’t understand as surely it has not been diagnosed on the wrong side this whole time, also what does that mean the mass on the left could be? She said the left side looks very small now, but the mass on the right is definitely there.

I am seeing a consultant for another scan on the 24th (I may push for one sooner), I am now worried out of my mind as I thought it was coming to the end. They have said if nothing shows on the next scan, I may need CT/MRI scans to check, last resort surgery.

I am wondering if anyone has experienced something similar? Or even just had a scan after the methotrexate is working, but the ectopic tissue is still there or growing.

Feeling alone and lost :smiling_face_with_tear:

Thank you xx
