Hi. Every month around ovulation I get the same pulling type cramps that I felt when I was dealing with my ectopic back in April. I was treated with expectant management as the baby had died and my body dealt with it naturally. Up to now I’ve been too scared to even try again as the ectopic was the following cycle to a miscarriage so it was emotionally a very hard time for me. This cycle we haven’t been so careful so there is a chance I could be pregnant again. I ovulated on Saturday (yesterday) I think and all day today I have been feeling this slightly right sided pulling cramp feeling which I had during the ectopic. I seem to get it some months around ovulation but wondered what could be causing it and if it might cause me problems conceiving or put me at even higher risk of another ectopic? Anyone experienced anything like this before? Im not sure if i ovulate from both sides or not but dont think i have this feelinf every month. Thanks.
Dear blinc,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
It is normal to experience some pain after ectopic pregnancy as your body has been through a great ordeal. The pain could be due to adhesions or scar tissue which formed as part of your healing. It could also be due to heightened awareness because of your sad loss. You may also be feeling ovulation pain (many women including myself never felt ovulation pain before the ectopic pregnancy and experience these sensations after). I think it may be worth keeping a pain diary to record when you feel the pain (including when in your cycle), its intensity on a scale of 1-10 and if anything helps such as rest, a hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. I would suggest keeping these notes for about 4/6 weeks and then seeing your doctors with this information as it would help them determine how best to manage your symptoms.
Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, I do have to remind you that if you miss a period and experience any unusual bleeding, abdominal pain, shoulder tip pain, bladder or bowel problems or feel dizzy and unwell please seek urgent medical advice.
Sending much love,
Karen x
