Cycles post tube removal

Hi all,

I had an ectopic and my left tube removed in Nov 2020. Since then my cycles have been 26 & 27 days. We’ve been trying again and I’m on day 29 (14 dpo) and negative pregnancy test.

I’ve had really bad cramps all week but my period hasn’t arrived.

Freaking me out a bit as when I had my ectopic I had really faint lines a few days after my period is due.

Not sure if I’m being paranoid or should I contact the doctor?

Thanks

@lauraleelee

Same here. My ectopic was mid-Nov 2020, I lost my left tube too and we’re also trying again. My post ectopic bleed didn’t start until 11 days after surgery, then my first proper period was exactly 6 weeks after the operation, my 2nd in Jan was a 25 day cycle and my 3rd last month was a 33 day cycle! Pre ectopic my cycles varied by a few days but not that much, 27 day cycle on average.

When it was due and overdue, I had a lot of cramping, back pain and pain in my sides above my hips too. I called the doctor when I was 4 or 5 days late and he told me to give it a bit longer but do a pregnancy test every couple of days (all we’re negative) then it came on day 34 and the pain stopped.

I’m getting a Day 21 blood test soon to check if I ovulated this month as the variation in cycle length could suggest I had an anovulatory cycle. Hoping everything is OK!

Hope this helps, you’re not alone!

Dear laura,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

Periods can take a few months to settle into a rhythm that is more normal for us, mine did too.

Periods can be delayed for a number of reasons including stress or even (as surprising as it may sound) excessive exercise or weight loss. Doctors normally consider menstrual cycles of between 23-42 days to be within normal parameters. If you have not had your expected period, we would advise retesting, using an early morning urine sample in a further week.

As you have been TTC, while I do not want to alarm you, if you experience any pain or unusual bleeding, please do get medical attention as soon as you can. If it gets to 42 days since the first day of your last menstrual period, please talk to your GP who maybe able to assist you further.

Sending much love,

Karen x
