Cornual Ectopic

Its been 5 days since my surgery for a rare kind of ectopic-- cornual ectopic, it was wedged between my uterus and fallopian tube. That was supposed to be my first baby, and that was my first surgery ever, and it was so scary. My doctor ruled out ectopic at about 7 weeks after seeing nothing at the ultrasound and said it’s miscarriage and told me to wait out out naturally. However i was still bleeding for about 3 weeks and felt pain on my right side! So at 10 weeks i went for an ultrasound by myself, they saw the unruptured cornual pregnancy and scheduled me for surgery immediately the next day.

After my surgery, i discovered i lost one of my tubes.

Now im discharged from the hospital and its so difficult to walk around and i have weird feelings of pain, and gas, and sometimes a hot sensation within my stomach. My doctor is on vacation so my checkup post op is still in a week… I really want to recover first before thinking trying again, how long does it usually take to recover? Im still bleeding post op and how long does this usually last? What kind of discomfort is felt post surgery-- pls share your experiences; it may help as ive been an emotional wreck lately… :frowning:

Dear Jeanny,

We are so sorry you have suffered a cornual ectopic pregnancy and would like to help in any way we can. To answer your questions:

PAIN AND GAS

Bloatedness is a reaction to the operation and the inflammation following this. The length of time it continues varies, but it should settle within six weeks. If it continues for longer it may be a sign that you have some ongoing infection and you should see your GP. Also, the doctors inflate your abdomen while they perform surgery and the gas will steadily leave your body over a couple of weeks.

RECOVERY

Recovery is really in two parts. There is the physical recovery of your body and the emotional recovery. Varying amount of pain or discomfort may continue for several weeks afterwards as the healing process continues and scarring continues to heal. This should lessen as time progresses. However, unfortunately, it is not unusual to still report some discomfort several months after an abdominal operation.

Emotionally, we always recommend people be gentle with themselves and allow themselves time to grieve the loss of their baby and come to terms with what has happened to them. It is not unusual for ladies to need to take time off of work to recover emotionally as well as physically.

BLEEDING

The length of time anyone bleeds varies from woman to woman greatly, as the bleeding is from the lining of the womb and is hormonally controlled. It will probably last a week or two, changing in colour from red to brown and diminishing. Some women report bleeding and spotting for up to six weeks.

Providing you aren’t soaking a pad in less than an hour or the pain is so severe you can’t manage it with over the counter pain relief, such as paracetamol, you should not worry. If you have any concerns, you should seek reassessment.

TYPES OF DISCOMFORT

I am sure ladies will share their personal experiences but more information on your body can be found here:

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Much love,

Jeanny just came across your posting and I am wondering if you ever got any answers and if you were able or told you would be able to have another pregnancy? I just suffered a cornual ectopic three weeks ago and they are saying I should not have any more babies.

hi Jenn, i had a cornual ectopic pregnancy and now i’m about 16 weeks pregnant. yes, you can still have more babies, you just need to be monitored closely by ur OB-GYN and lie low from strenuous physical activities (sometimes bed rest may be required) ive read about other moms delivering healthy babies after cornual pregnancies
