Hi, I’ve found out I’m pregnant again after my ectopic pregnancy which was treated with methotrexate.
I’m really worried as we’ve conceived by accident too early and we’re still in the 3 month period of being told not to try again.
I took methotrexate on 6th of August 2024. I’ve found out today that I’m pregnant. Date of my last period was 7th of October. I’m visiting the doctors tomorrow for further advice.
Has anyone else been through this where they’ve conceived too early? I’m worried about the effects this could have on the baby. The other worry of course is that I’ll have another ectopic.
Dear Ellie,
Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.
I know it is really daunting conceiving again following ectopic pregnancy.
Whilst we do recommend taking folic acid for 12 weeks before trying to conceive following methotrexate treatment, i do appreciate accidents can happen. You could always speak to your doctor, they may be able to complete a blood test to check the amount of folic acid in your blood to see if it is back in the normal range.
It is also important to book for an early pregnancy scan. This is done at around 6 weeks and you may be able to directly refer to your local EPU to book this or contact your GP surgery to ask them to refer.
Whilst it is common to feel twinges as we have a heightened worry, sadly I do have to remind you to seek urgent medical advice with any unusual bleeding, pain or you feel dizzy and unwell.
I hope you have managed to speak to your doctor and they have a plan for supporting you through this journey.
We will be here for you for as long as you need.
Sending much love,
Karen
