Hi everyone,
Just over two weeks ago I was sadly told that my first pregnancy was ectopic. I needed surgery, which resulted in my right tube being removed. During the operation the surgeon also found and removed two areas of endometriosis.
She also told me that my remaining (left) tube is clubbed, which has left me feeling really anxious about TTC again. I can’t help but fear this might happen all over again, and honestly, I don’t know if I have the emotional strength to go through that. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
To add to the mix, I’m a teacher based in Abu Dhabi. I’ve been home in the UK for the summer while all this has happened, but I’ll be travelling back in two days. My plan is to book in with a gynecologist as soon as I’m back to get everything properly on record and to see if there’s anything that can be done about my remaining tube. Right now though, my head just feels all over the place.
Dear Rachael,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss.
I hadn’t heard of the term ‘clubbed’ fallopian tube before. Upon searching, it could also be known as a hydrosalpinx, but as I am not sure on the terminology used by your consultant, I would advise speaking to your medical team once you are back.
For now, you should take it very easy for about six weeks after surgery. Your body will be using its energies to heal internally. It is normal to feel physically and emotionally exhausted during this time so please do be kind to yourself. Recovery can take time and some days will be better than others. One day you may be okay and the next you may be in discomfort or more emotional. This is perfectly usual and the healing process will go back and forth in this way for however long you need. It is important to listen to your body signals. Pain and feeling tired are your body signals to tell you to rest. We suggest keeping a healthy diet drinking lots of water and resting.
Best wishes,
Karen x
