Clomid and awful pains.

Hey ladies,

Basically I’ve started taking clomid this cycle, currently on day 19.

For the past few days I’ve had excruciating pain on my left side. However following EP oct 2012 I has my left tube removed.

I’ve been having tracking scans and in Monday they couldn’t find my left ovarie. But weren’t worried.

Really what I want to know is: are these normal pains from taking clomid?

Thanks

Dear Siobhan

I’m sorry that I don’t know the answer as I don’t have experience of clomid but I have asked colleagues and hopefully we will be able to help. The Main Board in the forums tends to get read more frequently by other women so if you wanted, you could repost your question there to see if someone else has had a similar experience.

Dear Shibhon

I am sorry that you are experiencing pains and, while I am not an expert on fertility drugs, will certainly do my best to help and support you.

Clomid works by blocking certain receptors in the brain and stimulating them to release hormones which are stimulants that prompt ovulation. As the drug is inducing ovulation and stimulates eggs to develop in the ovaries and be ready for fertilisation, the discomfort you are experiencing may be resulting ovulation pain. Many women report experiencing ovulation pain after an ectopic pregnancy when they hadn’t felt the sensations before. I had my tube removed too and since the surgery have felt ovulation pain.

In addition, the NHS Choices website lists discomfort of the stomach and pelvic pain as common side effects: http://www.nhs.uk/medicine-guides/pages … eparation=

The NHS Choices website recommends getting medical advice in these instances and while I do not want to alarm you unduly I would echo that suggestion, too. While the pain could be down to ovulation pain or side effects, I do think it worth speaking to your doctors and getting checked out to be on the safe side and give you peace of mind.

Look after yourself and please let us know if we can help any further.

Hi Shibhon,

I have taken Clomid as part of fertility treatment and have never experienced pain with it. Important thing to note is when does the pain occur (the time of the cycle) and how long for? Do you have spotting with it? Discuss it with a specialist rather than your GP.

Good luck and all the best with trying to conceive. x
