Any other advice??

So around 5 weeks ago i found out i was pregnant, i knew from the start something was wrong even tho i had never been pregnant before, about a week later i was experiencing extreme pain in my stomach i couldnt move!! Went to a+e to be told i had a water infection thats what was causing the pain! I knew a water infection couldnt be causing me this much pain but for 5 days nothing no pain then it happened again and they finally agreed todo a scan after telling me that they couldnt see why i was concerned!!

The scan showed that it was ectopic and i had been internally bleeding since the first time i got the pain in my stomach! They removed the ectopic and my right tube this was 3 weeks ago now, everythings healed great i still have the stitches but i am recovering well, they said my left tube does have some scar tissue and my left ovary had a veil of skin over it which was removed (no idea what thats about! Does anyone know more about an ovary being covered with a veil?)

Naturally im absolutely terrified to try again and i havent even got my period back yet i was told that could take some time.

3 days after my op i started doing castor oil packs everyday with a massage around 3 times a week and have done since then, i started taking serrapeptase last week 250000iu and dong quai root both twice aday, im also using rasperry leaf capsules and drinking the tea also multivitams, omega 3 fish oil,cod liver oil and garlic.

I have done alot of research and just want to know if in anyones experience there is anything else i could be doing to prevent this from happening again?? Tia

Hi Stacy5089,

I am very sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy and loss. Recovery from an ectopic, both physically and emotionally takes time, and I’d encourage you to continue to provide yourself time to heal. Many women experience a mix of feelings and this can include grief, hurt at loss and anger. Trying not to blame yourself is important, as it is no fault of yours, and nothing sadly, could have been done from stopping the ectopic pregnancy from happening.

While it is not possible to prevent an ectopic pregnancy from happening again, it is possible to conceive after ectopic pregnancy. Having your ovaries and remaining tube allow for a healthy pregnancy to be possible. I also thought I would mention that the numbers are on our side with future pregnancies as 65 per cent of women are healthily pregnant within 18 months of an ectopic pregnancy and some studies show this rises to around 85 per cent after two years.

Importantly, help is available with future pregnancies with an early scan at around six weeks gestation. This is to check that the embryo is in the right place and we suggest contacting your local EPU direct to book this in when you next become pregnant. I also experienced an ectopic pregnancy and had my right Fallopian tube removed and understand how shocking it is to go through that. I hope it can offer some comfort to know that I have since managed to conceive successfully with my remaining left Fallopian tube.

It’s normal to feel scared about trying again as you’ve been through a frightening experience, and it’s natural to wonder what future may hold. As you still have concerns about the comments of your ovary and scaring in the other tube, I would recommend that you return to speak with your GP or surgeon to ask additional questions. While ectopic pregnancies can not be prevented, it is very important for your peace of mind to understand the medical explanations for your circumstances.

With good wishes,

Michele

Thanks for your reply michele,

How long after the surgery did you conceive again? Was there anything you did different the 2nd time around?

Did they tell you why you had the ectopic in the first place, what your fertility issue was.

I will try again when im ready! i feel like i need a few months to get back to normal first.
