Dear Crystal25joy,
We are so sorry you have suffered an ectopic pregnancy and would like to help in any way we can.
AF question:
I understand your frustration. My period cycle increased in length from 28 to 40 days for several months after my ectopic pregnancy. It is really common and very frustrating. Broadly speaking, doctors consider menstrual (period) cycles of between 23 to 42 days to be within normal parameters. If the first day of your last period goes beyond 42 days, make an appointment with your doctor to discuss the possible reasons for this.
Smoothie Question:
I will answer this question in two stages as I have to explain the EPT’s alternative therapies policy before commenting on the smoothie.
The EPT is a charity that has the backing of many medical specialists and prides itself in providing accurate, research based medical information. Whilst we understand that many people are interested in the use of alternative and complementary therapies, we do not endorse these on our site. We therefore remind you that, should you wish to make use of these therapies, you exercise caution and also avoid recommending them to other users of the EPT forums. Many complementary medicines are quite powerful and can have harmful side effects if misused. They may also interact with medicines that you may already be taking, or intend to take. Please remember that “natural” does not always mean safe – indeed some of the medicines that are prescribed today (including some controlled drugs) are derived from natural products. Many “natural” or “herbal” preparations can interfere with prescribed medicines or even make an existing condition or illness worse.
Buying medicines on the internet is far from safe and you can never be 100% sure that they do what they say they do, or contain exactly what they say they do. Lastly, there are many unscrupulous people out there who are quite happy to make money from vulnerable groups, making claims that cannot be substantiated about products and services they aim to supply to you, so do be aware of this and only seek guidance and or alternative treatment from appropriately qualified and registered individuals.
Take some of the ingredients in the smoothie like royal jelly - Royal jelly is secreted from the glands in the heads of worker bees and is fed to all bee larvae. It is 67% water, 12.5% crude protein, 11% simple sugars (monosaccharides) and 5% fatty acids. It also contains many trace minerals, some enzymes, antibacterial and antibiotic components, vitamin B5, vitamin B6 and trace amounts of [dietary supplement].
The main risk of it is that it may cause allergic reactions in humans ranging from hives, asthma, to even fatal anaphylaxis although the percentage incidence of allergic side effect is unknown as this has never undergone a large controlled medical study. It is known that the risk of having an allergy to royal jelly is higher in people who have other allergies though.
There have been various claims about the substance from it being able to lower cholesterol through to it being able to treat wounds and the European Food and Safety Association has rejected these claims.
We would not endorse the taking of the smoothie but recognise that you have personal choice and should do what you feel is right.
Best wishes,
EPT Host 13
