Advice on weight please

Hi everyone,

Myself and my partner went through our third ectopic this February and this time was surgery, I think we’re doing okay now. I have spent quite a bit of time eating junk food unfortunately … mainly chocolate and crying, but the last two weeks I’ve gone back to eating healthy and running. This week I’ve ran everyday, yet the scales still show barely any difference.

Before the pregnancy I was losing weight easily and now it’s so hard, did anyone else struggle with this?

I need to lose a stone for the fertility clinic and before we try again, but I feel like it doesn’t matter what I do the weight just won’t come off and it’s really starting to get me down. I’m really active during the day too with walking dogs and renovating a house, so I don’t understand why I can’t lose weight.

I would appreciate anyone’s advice. Thank you.

Dear Stephie,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy losses. To experience one loss is difficult, dealing with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.

Sometimes as we exercise it can turn fat into muscle mass which actually weighs heavier. Have you noticed your body shape changing at all as this can be a marker of the start of your healthy, weight loss journey.

Do not lose hope. You are on the right path and the numbers will follow.

The NHS has lots of information on healthy lifestyle choices and many GP practices have access to Social Prescribers who are trained to help people through lifestyle changes such as weight loss, so it maybe worth contacting your surgery for support too.

I I understand how important the weight loss is to you for your fertility treatment but please do not get disheartened if it is not happening as quickly as you would like. If you continue making healthy choices you will get there. You are amazing doing all of this whilst dealing with the fallout from experiencing an ectopic pregnancy. You are amazing.

We will be here for you for as long as you need,

Sending much love,

Karen x
