Advice after previous ectopic and blighted ovam

So long story short, on the 24th October 2016 I was rushed to hospital with severe pain to find out I was having an ectopic pregnancy, the same day I had my right Fallopian tube fully removed. 3 months later January 30th 2017 I found out I was pregnant again but this time I had blighted ovam (empty pregnancy sac) I found this out on the 20th of February, I’m on my 4th day of having a miscarriage naturally! So after all of what’s happened and not actually trying to get pregnant me & my partner have decided to really try for a baby, my doctor told me If I feel emotionally ready I don’t have to wait he just recommended to wait till my HCG levels went right down to 0! Has anyone got any advice on if I should wait? If so how long? And any recommendations on tablets/ vitamins/ anything that will help conceive and make it a healthy one? Sorry for making this so long! I just feel totally uncomfortable asking my doctors about it! :frowning:

Dear Chloejade98,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and losses. To experience one loss is difficult to deal with two is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.

Regarding conceiving again, we and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles. It is important to allow time for your body to recover and emotions to surface and be worked through. This is so that you have some comfort that your body is returning to its natural rhythm and you have a last menstrual period date from which to date a new pregnancy - key information in checking you are not suffering from an ectopic pregnancy in the future. The first bleed soon after surgery for ectopic pregnancy is not classed as a period as it is the body’s response to falling hormone levels.

Regarding vitamins and healthy diet, we would advise following the NHS guidelines which I have added below.

http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy- … gnant.aspx

You mention you are being medically managed but if you have a drug called methotraxate, we do advise you wait until your blood hCG levels have fallen below 5mlU/ml and then take folic acid suppliments for 12weeks before ttc.

It is completely normal to feel a mix of emotions from wanting to try again to being petrified of what may lie ahead.

Sadly w can not prevent ectopic pregnancy so Importantly early scans avail. As soon as you know you are pregnant, contact your local EPU to inform them and book in for an early scan at around six weeks. Remind them of your previous ectopic pregnancy. This self refer route is the best route in our view. Hopefully you will have some comfort to know you are under the radar of medical professionals right away.

We are here too. TTC is an emotional rollercoaster compounded by our sad loss. You are not ot alone. We here for emotional support whenever you need us. There is a specific TTC board can look at too whenever feel ready.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Hi

Feeling low and very sad…this is my story I had a ectopic last year resolved with x2 shots.

We decide to take time to heal as the ectopic left me traumatised I wouldn’t leave the house for 2 months, didn’t want to speak to anyone!!

Found out I’m pregnant a month ago, but was bleeding which I thought was my cycle but when test was positive I panicked and contacted epau…after weeks of scan and bloods doc decided to do laparoscopy as they couldn’t locate the pregnancy, I was told my tubes and ovaries look fine thank god for that but they could not see the pregnancy, few days after that I had heavy bleeding with clots go back for scan and was told it was a blighted ovum and sac is in the uterus. I decided I would try and miscarry naturally but 3 weeks yesterday scan showed sac is still there. I took the mis

So sorry this has happened to you too! I highly recommend going on some kind of contraceptive after just to give your body some time to heal! I can’t see the rest of your comment so I’m not sure if there was a question in there

Yes sorry I think my story was too long so it may not have all come up!

Yes I took Misoprostol on Monday after half an hour my pains started I was getting cramping like period pains, I have fibroids too so I have very painful periods. Pains lasted 10 hours but I had no bleeding, so I rang epau yesterday and said I’m concerned the med hasn’t worked for me and was told it can take 2/3 days. I had no pain yesterday but today I’m getting lower abdominal pain just waiting now hoping it happens otherwise I will be calling epau tomorrow.

I’m worried that with the pain I’m having today could I be having internal bleeding? Is this possible with a sac only? As I’ve had the pain all day but no bleeding is this normal?

I would appreciate some advice please.

I just stay in my PJ’s all day, feeling very low in myself, don’t want to see anyone or speak to anyone

Thank you Chloejade, yes we took 7 months after my ectopic last year, so my body can heal both physically and emotionally.

I will be doing the same again hopefully, I can also do with some advice from anyone who has fibroids? Mine have doubled in size since last year and are 5.7cm. I would like to shrink them in size before we try again, as I keep thinking it could be the fibroids that caused the miscarriage
