When will symptoms disappear?

Had left tube and ectoptic pregnancy removed 5 days ago at 5+5 - but still feel pregnant? Tender breasts, nausea etc. In my country they don’t do follow ups, HCG levels etc. after surgery, so am very nervous… how long will it normally take for symptoms to go away? HCG was just under 2000 at day of surgery.

Dear Sofias77,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

Women often report still feeling pregnant sometimes two or three weeks after surgery and for longer after treatment with Methotrexate or expectant management. Even after surgery, where the fallopian tube is partially or completely removed, it can take some time for the hCG Levels (pregnancy hormone in the body) to drop which, along with the raised level of progesterone in your bloodstream, can make some women feel pregnant even after they have lost their baby. These feelings of still being pregnant usually subside as the hCG levels drop. You may also get sore breasts immediately after and for some weeks after the operation as they get used to not being pregnant. They may get sore again leading up to the next period.

Please be kind to yourself, allow time to grieve, to heal both physically and emotionally.

Sending much love,

Karen x
