Hi I’m just looking for some advice as I’m very confused. I had a pregnancy of unknown location, levels never reached over 850, so relatively low. Treated with methotrexate 6 weeks ago. My levels have come down each week since, very gradually.
After my bloods today I’ve been called to say I’m officially discharged and no further bloods are needed, my blood result is negative, which I was extremely happy about. However the nurse then kept referring to levels under 10 being negative, and then said I should do a pregnancy test in a few weeks ‘to make sure’. I’m extremely confused. Online it seems a lot of places only consider <5 hcg as negative. I don’t know whether to start taking my multivitamins again now, or wait? But I don’t know what I’m now waiting for and nervous this is not the end I hoped it would be.
Sorry I didn’t explain this very well, to confirm today my level is 10.
Dear may,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss.
We would generally say hCG levels below 5 are negative, but I have heard of some units using a higher level. I would advise contacting your EPU, just to double check their numbers for discharge. If you are discharged, you can start taking folic acid supplements and take them for 12 weeks before trying to conceive.
Sending much love,
Karen x
