I’m able to try again next month (two cycles) but I still experience some discomfort where my ectopic was (expected management) it’s not overly painful but can feel during ovulation and my last period. I’ve read the mass can remain for a few months so I asked my GP for an ultrasound but they declined. I have seen I can go private. I just want to see if the mass remains before I TTC, why is this not recommended in the NHS???
Dear Kath,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss. Experiencing discomfort following ectopic pregnancy is common and we are not 100% sure why this may be. I also had pain.
Sadly, there are no tests or investigations that can be done to assure you that you will not experience an ectopic pregnancy again. The 3 month wait is to allow for any inflammation to settle. There is sadly no evidenced based research that tells us how long any inflammation or masses will take to settle either. Is a mass is still seen on an ultrasound scan, they have no way of knowing how long it will take to settle and no way of knowing how that affects the tube.
I would always advise having an early pregnancy scan at 6 weeks with any subsequent pregnancies. This will hopefully reassure you as you will be under assessment from medical professionals at an early stage.
Sending much love,
Karen x
