Trying to conceive but not ovulating

I have been trying for the past few months but I don’t seem to be ovulating. I am using n app and ovulation tests kits but these are all showing as negative.

I’m so confused and frustrated

Not sure what to do now

Dear RosieWalker,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

If you are concerned that you are not ovulating, please seek medical advice from your GP who maybe able to offer blood tests to check your hormone levels.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Been to my dr who is sending for tests for both myself and hubby. I need to have two sets of blood at two different stages of my cycle and hobby needs to give a sperm sample. We are now being referred to fertility specialist. Not really sure what to expect but hoping for some more answers. I’ve really been struggling especially at work as I teach child development and all I want to do is cry all the time. I thought about signing off sick but it’s such a busy time as all data has to be inputted so students grades are calculated properly, work feel like I can stop until Easter.

Dear RosieWalker,

I am glad to hear that you have been to your GP and referred to a specialist.

Many of us struggle emotionally following ectopic pregnancy and although I understand work is busy, your emotional health and wellbeing should take precedence over this. Please do talk to your GP about time off work if needed.

We at the Trust believe that talking through what happened and your emotions as and when you can helps the healing process. We operate a helpline service and there’s no pressure whatsoever but if you would ever like the opportunity to speak over the phone to someone who has been through a similar experience, do feel free to call, details are below. We can take things at your pace entirely and you are free to ask any questions that are on your mind. You can talk about the ordeal you have been through and express your feelings to vent and let off some steam. We can exchange emails too, if you prefer that route. We’ll simply be here for you, however you wish and for as long as you wish.

In addition, you can ask to see a GP at your practice and ask them to explore ways in which you can get help and this can include referrals for “talking therapies” or counselling. We have information on our website about finding counselling services.

The charity Mind may also be of assistance. They have local centres and support groups and can offer services on a means-tested basis or sometimes free. You can find your local centre following this link if that may be useful too: http://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/local-minds/

Above all, be kind to yourself. Make yourself and your healing a priority.

Sending much love,

Karen x

So I had a week off work before the Easter holidays which has helped a little. I’m also seeing a new therapist on a really regular basis which is painful but seems to be helping.

I’m very anxious about not ovulating and having tests. My husband seems to take it all in his stride but I think that is down to me convincing him I am the reason we are not pregnant again so he feels no responsibly.

We have to wait until June for his test which feels like a lifetime away, I keep calling the department at the hospital to see if there have been cancellations, ae I am getting desperate for answers and help.

This is such a nightmare and I really feel like giving up.

Hi,

Sorry to hear you’ve been struggling. I know how it feels. We’ve been TTC for 6 years before our recent pregnancy which ended in an ectopic with both medication and surgery management. It’s been a super stressful couple of weeks and can’t wait to start trying again.

What tests has your husband been sent for? Semen analysis referrals can be done by your GP and an appointment at the hospital shouldn’t take that long.

With regards to fertility appointments and treatments within the NHS, I should warn you this will take months, if not well over a year before you begin fertility treatments (if needed). Your GP can send you for initial hormone profile blood tests done at day 2 to 5 of your cycle and a 21 day progesterone blood test to check if you’ve ovulated. Hopefully these results can give you an idea if your fertility is ok. You will also need to have a Antral Follicle Count (AFC) ultrasound to see how many follicles there are in your ovaries. This will also give you an indication of your fertility.

Please don’t give up but at the same time you will need to find a way to be patient while waiting to have all these tests and investigations done. See it as you’re doing something about it and this will hopefully help you in conceiving soon.

In the meantime research myo-insitol powder. This Vitamin has helped alot of women with ovulation and I was taking it for 4 months prior to my 1st ever pregnancy. I also took Ubiquinol, Folic acid, Vitamin D, Omega 3 fish oil, L-Arginine and Vitamin B complex to improve egg quality. My partner was also on some vitamins and supplements to improve his sperm. We saw fertility specialist privately to get some diagnoses and to improve our chances of conception. We were literally getting ready to have IVF before I miraculously conceived. I honestly put it down to all the supplements were taking. Also healthy eating and eliminating any bad habits like smoking and drinking is very important while you’re TTC.

I’m glad to hear you’re having therapy and speaking to someone about how you’re feeling. Be kind to yourself and try to hold on to some hope as difficult as it may seem. I’ve been there, and I am still not over stuff but every day I try to remind myself that I will be pregnant again soon and not to be too hard on myself.

I wish you all the best and sending you babydust for the future! Xx

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestions.

I’ve been for bloods which identified no ovulation and I’m going for ultrasounds tomorrow to check everything out. My husband is having a semen analysis.

I am taking pregnacare as is my husband now. I’ll have a look at the other vitamins you suggested.

We know it is going to take a very long time before we get any treatment. Once we buy our house later this year we are going to continue saving in case we decide to go private.

It’s so frustrating that things take so long

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your recent blood test results. I would definitely look into Myo-insitol. It’s helped alot of women ovulate again. How was your scan? I hope everything looked ok.

Even though I haven’t started TTC again due to MTX injection, I can’t help but worry if we’re going to struggle to conceive again like we did for all those years. I am trying my hardest to find the strength to stay positive but it’s not easy…
