Period post ectopic - conservative management

Hi, I have recently just had my 2nd ectopic pregnancy in 10 months, both on the left side. I have been able to have them both managed conservatively. I was discharged on the 6th Feb with a BHCG of 3. I have started bleeding again yesterday, assume this is a period. I was told it would take 6 weeks to bleed again. Worried that is it very early?

Dear Sarah,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy losses. To experience one loss is difficult, dealing with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.

If you haven’t had surgery your period can start at around 4 weeks. So I this is likely to be your period. If you have had unprotected intercourse and there is any chance you could be pregnant, please complete a pregnancy test and if this is positive and you are bleeding, please seek urgent medical advice.

As you may be aware, your first period may be more painful or less so than usual, heavier or lighter, and last for longer or shorter than usual – there really is no set pattern. You should be able to manage the discomfort with over-the-counter (OTC) pain relief medications and should not be soaking a pad in less than an hour. If this is not the case, you should seek medical advice.I

Please be kind to yourself and allow time to grieve and heal both physically and emotionally.

We will be here for you for as long as you need,

Sending much love,

Karen x
