Pain 5 weeks post keyhole surgery

Hello, I have a question about recovery post surgery. I had an ectopic pregnancy 5 weeks ago that ruptured my fallopian tube. I had keyhole surgery and have been recovering OK I think but in the last few days I’ve gone back to having quite a lot of pain which worsens when I move and I feel like I’ve gone back a couple of weeks. My husband thinks I may have overdone it last week as I was feeling a lot stronger so pretty much went back to my usual busy routine of working and doing things with my family. I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar? I was advised that keyhole surgery was a 2-4 week recovery so just worried why I seem to have gone backwards 5 weeks on. Thank you in advance.

Dear Shanny,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,

You should take it very easy for about six weeks after surgery. Your body will be using its energies to heal internally. It is normal to feel physically and emotionally exhausted during this time so please do be kind to yourself. Recovery can take time and some days will be better than others. One day you may be okay and the next you may be in discomfort or more emotional. This is perfectly usual and the healing process will go back and forth in this way for however long you need. It is important to listen to your body signals. Pain and feeling tired are your body signals to tell you to rest. We suggest keeping a healthy diet drinking lots of water and resting.

Having said this pain is very subjective and if you are concerned or the pain is worsening I would suggest seeking medical advice.

We have more information on recovery in our website which I’ve added here and you may find useful

Hi, I did the same thing! I went back to work and started to get alot of pain. I went to the GP 5 days ago, I have been started on antibiotics and stronger pain killers. I see you posed in August, have you found the pain has improved now?
