Ovulation spotting after ectopic?

Hi Everyone,

I had surgery for an ectopic pregnancy on the 4th May and had my right tube removed. I bled for about a week and a half afterwards. Another week or two later I had a couple of days of brown spotting, which I put down as a normal post-surgery thing. I got my first period about 6 weeks after surgery, and about 2 weeks after the spotting.

I have irregular cycles (due to PCOS) at the best of times so it’s difficult to tell, but I’m roughly halfway through my cycle (I think - that’s if I have a cycle of a similar length as before, about 34 days) and I’ve just had some spotting again. The only way I’ll know if it correlates with ovulation is if I get my period in another two weeks, but I wondered if anyone else has started getting ovulation spotting after an ectopic? I’ve never had it before, but then I don’t ovulate very often either!

Dear Rosie88,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

Periods can take a while to settle into a rhythm that is more normal for you.

I would suggest keeping a diary of your symptoms (it sounds as though you are) and speaking to your Drs if they persist as ongoing bleeding outside of normal expected periods should be discussed with a medical professional.

Sending much love,

Karen x
