Non dominant ovary

I was wondering if you ladies have come across any information to help…

My ectopic side is my dominant side for ovulation. I just got my bfp i had a follow up ultrasound the mass in my tube has gotten a lot smaller but still there and my follicles are starting to grow and it seems 1 is starting to become the dominant follicle… Which of course is on my ectopic side.

I am trying to be ok with this because it has be advised we wait 1 more af before ttc. Im just worried that it will be a while before my good side ovulates. Havent ovulated from good side since May and they use to alternate ovulating.

Do you ladies know how if/ how to get non dominant ovary to work more?

Dear More2come,

Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your query.

As far as I am aware women who have 2 ovaries release eggs randomly. It can be common to ovulate from one ovary for several months in a row.

This process is controlled by hormones so there is very little we can do to control this. I have added further information here-

I wish I could give more precise information, but generally, we and many healthcare professionals advise keeping a healthy balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight and abstaining from alcohol and smoking.

Importantly early scans avail. As soon as you know you are pregnant, contact your local EPU to inform them and book in for an early scan at around six weeks. Remind them of your previous ectopic pregnancy. This self refer route is the best route in our view. Hopefully you will have some comfort to know you are under the radar of medical professionals right away.

As a gentle reminder regarding conceiving again, we and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles. It is important to allow time for your body to recover and emotions to surface and be worked through. This is so that you have some comfort that your body is returning to its natural rhythm and you have a last menstrual period date from which to date a new pregnancy - key information in checking you are not suffering from an ectopic pregnancy in the future. The first bleed soon after surgery for ectopic pregnancy is not classed as a period as it is the body’s response to falling hormone levels. If you had methotraxate, we strongly advise you should wait until your hCG levels have fallen to below 5mIU/mL and then take a folic acid supplement for 12 weeks before you try to conceive. This is because the Methotrexate may have reduced the level of folate in your body which is needed to ensure a baby develops healthily.

Sending much love,

Karen x
