Dear becky,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and of the difficult time you had. If you have concerns over your care and would like some answers, I would advise speaking to the Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS) within your local hospital who will review this for you.
Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your queries. The bleeding you experience during the ectopic pregnancy is due to the drop in hCG levels and is not classed as a period. We all experience differing levels of bleeding and this may have been normal for you.
Your periods can take a while to re-establish and they can re-start anything between two and ten weeks after treatment. Most women find that their period arrives sometime around week six or seven after surgery.
The body is a very clever thing and before you can have a period you have to ovulate. It is perfectly possible to ovulate within 14 days after surgical treatment and almost as soon with Methotrexate treatment, so it is important to be aware that it is possible to become pregnant without having a proper period first if you are not using some form of contraception.
I would always advise ladies seeking medical advice about any change in their breasts and nipples, speaking to a doctor about your bleeding may also put your mind at rest too.
Sending much love,
Karen x
