Just wanting some advice, I had an ectopic on October 15th 2018 and had my right tube removed. My husband and I would love to start trying asap. Are there any risks or harm in starting to try after my next period? I know the guidance is at least 2 menstrual cycles but just wanted to check.
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
I really understand the desire to conceive however, we and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles. It is important to allow time for your body to recover and emotions to surface and be worked through. This is so that you have some comfort that your body is returning to its natural rhythm and you have a last menstrual period date from which to date a new pregnancy - key information in checking you are not suffering from an ectopic pregnancy in the future. The first bleed soon after surgery for ectopic pregnancy is not classed as a period as it is the body’s response to falling hormone levels.
Sending much love,
Karen x

Hi Lynsey. I had an ectopic the week after you, resulting in the loss of my left tube and am also wondering the same. At the moment I can’t really think about the physicalness of Ttc again but equally I don’t want to hang about as I’m scared I’ll become Anxious about it. Did you find out any more information? How are you feeling physically? Thanks Sam
Hi, likewise! Only just had my op ( 10 days ago) do not on cards right now… can’t even put on socks on let alone anything else! I know it’s going to be scary if I get pregnant again. I think we’ll take out shares at a private scan clinic! Good luck xx
The doctor told me after the op we can try again after one period but I’ve since seen its two months . I’ve just continued taking folic acid and omega 3 and having really thought about ovulation until after period 2 is over. Good luck xx
Hello everyone! I just lost my first pregnancy becz of ectopic and it’s a painful experience. I definitely think that’s I m quite unfortunate that I had the fate of ectopic in my first pregnancy. I m trying to be strong but I cry out , my hubby is trying to give me support though inside he is all broken aswell. I have just undergone surgery and my right Fallopian tube has been removed 2 days back and I m really worried of getting pregnant with ectopic, but definitely would like to plan for my next baby ASAP. How long u think should I wait as per doctor they say at least till two menstural cycle but I have no idea how long to wait fr a healthy pregnancy again. I m really worried and confused ,sad & lonely !
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss. When we experience ectopic pregnancy we are suddenly faced with a life threatening emergency and it’s treatment, reduction in fertility, concerns about the future and the loss of our babies. Experiencing any one of these is an ordeal, putting them together is immense and your feelings are completely normal.
Regarding conceiving again, we and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles. It is normal to feel anxious about the future. We experience a mix of emotions from wanting to try again to being petrified of what may lie ahead. We never forget our babies, but we can learn to accept what happened. It is a slow process that might be weeks or months ahead. In time, we can get to a place where we feel comfortable trying again. When this is, is individual for each person. There is no timeframe for recovery, take each day as it comes.
Importantly early scans avail. As soon as you know you are pregnant, contact your local EPU to inform them and book in for an early scan at around six weeks. Remind them of your previous ectopic pregnancy. This self refer route is the best route in our view. Hopefully you will have some comfort to know you are under the radar of medical professionals right away.
Sending much love and warm hugs,
Karen x
