Hcg levels

Sorry for everyone’s difficulties here, just looking for some advice re levels.

My hcg levels rose to 6000, 4 days post methotrexate on 10th Jan. They have been decreasing since but from reading the forum most people’s hcg levels for ectopic seem much lower than that, and wondering should I have opted for methotrexate?!

7 weeks on, my levels are now in the 100s but has felt like the longest amount of time. I read online it usually averages 22-28 days for hcg to drop to zero after methotrexate.

Has anyone has any similar experiences with levels?

Dear GrC,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,

I understand how worrying and frustrating it is when we don’t know what is going on with our bodies.

I am afraid it is difficult to predict how long it will take for your hormone levels reach non-pregnant levels. As we are all individual, our bodies respond differently to the drug and it depends on factors like how high levels reached and our unique physiology. What I can say is that it can take a while and, while it can take some time and feel very slow, it is not as invasive a procedure as surgery. It is also encouraging that your levels are falling although I appreciate that it can be a drawn out process. Also, in terms of chances of future successful pregnancies, studies do not show a significant difference between treatment routes, whether surgical, medical using methotrexate or expectant management (allowing time for the body to resolve the pregnancy itself).

I will keep everything crossed your levels drop more quickly.

Sending much love,

Karen x

It took me 10 weeks post mtx injection to get to a hcg of 0. My hcg was 4600 at time of injection. Whats annoying is when you get to the 100s the drop is very slow so when you get your weekly blood test they’re like it’s 100, then next week it’s 56, then 25, so on. I’d say I was around 100 hcg at 7 weeks too.
