Hey, I’m now 11days post open surgery my scars are healing well, the keyhole holes are giving me more discomfort than the whopping 10cm one but it’s nothing I feel I need to worry about. My worry is how swollen my belly seems to still be?? I know it will take time but it’s quite uncomfortable. Also did others find their toliet habitat changed? If I need to hold a wee in it really hurts, I’m a nurse so was a pee holding champion. I seem to have a lot of trapped wind and going for a number two is much harder. I was on codeine which causes constipation but haven’t needed any for a Two/three days now. I guess I just need to hear how others felt and how long I need to wear my eating jeans for as can’t fit this belly into my normal one
Hi, sorry to hear what you are going through too. I am 7 days post key hole op and my belly is still bloated. I find wearing dresses and tights help at the moment.
Best wishes on your recovery x
Never thought of tights thank you, I said today that I feel like a need a belly bra as everything feels swollen and heavy. I lost 3 stone to get pregnant and now feel like I’ve again atleast 4 back on xx
If I remember it took me about 1 month to be comfy in jeans I was in dresses and leggings, anything that didn’t rub the scars and came up to my waist! I also had a urine infection to do mabey its worth checking that one out. That was back in march 2017 and I am now 32 weeks pregnant and feeling like a killer whale!! Here’s to hoping you ladies get to feel like this soon!!
I coughed my catheter out - with all that’s been going on the embarrassment of me buzzing the buzzer to tell the nurse that “my fanny was on fire” oh, all the words I could of used I’m blaming codeine  So I think there has been some irritation down there. It’s reassuring that other ladies have felt the same. Fantastic news on your pregnancy xx
Dear JoUp,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Bloatedness is a reaction to the operation and the inflammation following this. The length of time it continues varies, but it should settle within six weeks. If it continues for longer it may be a sign that you have some ongoing infection and you should see your GP. Also if your urinary symptoms continue, please also speak to your GP as this could also be signs of a urinary tract infection.
Experiencing an ectopic pregnancy is a huge ordeal and you are in the early stages of recovery. Your body needs time to heal from your surgery which is in itself a gruelling task. You have also had to process the loss of your baby and been through an immense rollercoaster of emotions - all of this will take time to come to terms with.
You should take it very easily for about six weeks after surgery. Your body will be using its energies to heal internally. It is normal to feel physically and emotionally exhausted during this time and please do be kind to yourself. Recovery can take time and some days will be better than others, one day you maybe ok and the next you maybe in discomfort or more emotional. This is perfectly usual and the healing process will go back and forth in this way for however long you need. It is important to listen to your body’s signals and pain and feeling tired are your body’s signs to tell you to rest. We suggest keeping a healthy balanced diet, drinking lots of water and resting. Once your wounds have healed, very gentle exercise such as a short walk can help, but please do take this slowly.
Sending much love,
Karen x

I am 3 weeks post op and honestly, I cannot hold my wee now at all. When i need to go, I have to go. The trapped wind is still happening and before I never used to fart a lot. But now, I seem to fart all the dam time. The swelling could be, a collection of blood. I have a huge lump under one of my scars- i was advised to massage it with Vaseline. From what I’ve read regarding this, it takes 4 weeks to feel comfortable again.
I wish you all the best in your recovery
