Hi,
I had a laparoscopy 2 weeks ago to remove my ectopic pregnancy, luckily didn’t have my tube removed.
I didn’t bleed straight after the surgery but I started bleeding bright red 8 days later and I’m still having spotting.
Is it normal to have the bleeding or is a sign of an infection or something wrong with my body after surgery? My HCG the day i started bleeding was 16.
Dear Rdavis,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,
It is normal to experience bleeding following treatment for ectopic pregnancy. This is not classed as a.period, it is a bleed as your hCG hormone level has dropped. This vaginal bleeding or spotting can occur for up to six weeks. If there is heavy bleeding or you experience vaginal bleeding that is worrying you such as with an unusual smell or high body temperature of over 37°C, please contact a healthcare professional as soon as possible. As always, consult a medical healthcare professional if you have severe pain. We have more information on recovery from ectopic pregnancy on our website and I have added the information on bleeding here. I hope this helps.
