Advice please

Hi just wondering if anyone has been through anything similar and could advise on what their outcome was.

I had a chemical miscarriage January and caught straight after was being monitored on my bloods which were rising/ doubling. First scan I think I may of been around 5 weeks so nothing showed up but bloods were as they should be.

At 6 weeks I started light bleeding which then got heavier like a period which I felt I knew then was another miscarriage went for my bloods 5 days later and they had increased but no way near what they should of, so went back again for a scan again nothing could be seen everything looks healthy and as it should they took my bloods again and rang with the results to say they had risen again they aren’t doubling but still rising when if I was miscarrying you’d expect them to decrease especially since I have been bleeding for over a week now. I’m back again for my bloods in a couple of days. I’m having no pain of any sorts just wondering if anyone had any similar with a pregnancy in an unknown location and how it was resolved?

Thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

Dear Cherry,

I am so sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through. Not knowing what is happening to our bodies can be extremely overwhelming and you have friends here who understand.

It is important to understand that Pregnancy of unknown location - (PUL) is not a diagnosis; it is a label given until the final location of the pregnancy can be identified with certainty. In the event of a PUL, blood will be taken to measure serum progesterone and hCG and the hCG test repeated 48 hours later. The doctors would also want to repeat the scan. Until the location of the pregnancy is known definitively or the serum hormone levels have decreased to below pregnancy levels, there is a risk of complications associated with an as yet undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy. Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, for every 100 pregnancies labelled as a PUL about 10 will subsequently be found to be ectopic; but not all of these will need treatment. If treatment is required, (methotraxate injection or surgery) this will depend on the results of blood tests and scans and I would discuss this further with you Dr.

Although I do not wish to alarm you, please seek urgent medical advice with any worsening bleeding or you experience pain or develop shoulder tip pain or dizziness and feeling unwell. We would gently remind you to not undertake any strenuous exercise or lifting or housework at this time.

I am sorry that I cannot provide you with more precise details but I hope all becomes much clearer over the forthcoming blood tests and scans.

We are here for you for as long as you need,

Sending much love,

Karen x

Thank you for your reply, I have been back today for my bloods and again then have risen but still not where they should be for how far along I would be (nearly 8 weeks) I am back for a scan tomorrow and then was discussed to take methotrexate to resolve if nothing shows on scan I think with bleeding I knew I had miscarried just hope no surgery is needed.
