advice please:expectant management

Hello, I’m new to this board and would appreciate any advice… I was diagnosed with a suspected ectopic on the 18th December and hcg was only 149 at the time, I was in no pain but have been bleeding since I found out I was pregnant on the 24th November… Due to be not being in pain and being otherwise fit and well they opted for expectant management with repeat blood tests monitoring my hcg drop. My questions are… Is it normal to still be bleeding 7 weeks after? I have no idea when to expect my first period or if I’m having it as its just a steady flow all the time :frowning: my hcg last week was 66 so I am hoping it has dropped further when I get the results today. And the other question is when is it safe to try again after expectant management? Sorry for the essay and many thanks in advance!!

I had methotrexate injection for mine.

I had my first period about 4/5 weeks after my hcg dropped below 5. I hope your levels have dropped with your latest results? Do you have another follow up??

They have dropped to 18 which I’m happy with  shows everything is going in the right direction still, I’m waiting for the epac nurse to call with follow up action as it was the receptionist that told me my results. I’m guessing it may be another test in a week which I’m praying will be back to normal by then. Thanks for your reply, I’m hoping that will be the case with me that I will get my af shortly after levels are back to normal. I just find the the whole expectant management thing hard as its just my body doing its thing in its own time and I have no idea when it will resolve. Just need to be patient!

Hi ladies, my first post here, I have to say I’ve found these forums a great support over the last few days since my EP diagnosis. I too am in the expectant management boat with rapidly decreasing HSG levels. I have found very limited info about how your body handles this though. it usual to feel completely exhausted and generally unwell while this happens? I’m almost a week in and while HSG are now low double digits I feel like I could sleep for a week, have no focus/concentration and feel totally spaced out. Anyone had similar? Is this normal?

*HCG even, still getting to grips with the acronyms

I was absolutely wiped out after mine. Though assumed it was the methotrexate though I suppose it was partly that and partly my body actually recovering!

That’s reassuring to hear, just no clue what to expect, they just leave you to it really!

Hi everyone…hope you all are doing much better. I had ectopic in September last year and I was given expectant management since my hcg was falling consistently.

Remember he healing is as much emotional as physical…do give time to your body to recover. Even with expectant management, you need to be very careful because till your hcg fall to negative, you need to be cautious of the rupture.

I used to feel very fatigued as well and wanted to sleep in most part of the day. However, that said…I really didn’t stopped doing any of the house chores. I was very careful though. And I did take 2 months off work. My ectopic was in the left…It took almost 4 months for the ectopic sac to dissolve. Till then I did not do any strenuous work, didn’t run, didn’t do weights and didn’t bend a lot. You also need to make sure you are not constipated in this time.

My progress was like this:

*I was about 5 weeks pregnant, HCG at 4200

*Bleeding started Aug 30 and I bled for about a week

*my HCG took about 3-4 weeks to drop to negative

*First af showed at Oct 30

*Second af showed at Dec 9

I still get twinges and pain in my left aide, where the ectopic was, esp after heavy work.

Our doc told us that we could start trying after first af but we decided to wait 6 months. Now will be start ttc again in March…nervous and anxious about it!

I wanted to ask you, Gina and Danielle…did you get the leparoscopy procedure done to check tube patency? Have your doctors advice to do it before you start ttc again? My docs told me to just go ahead and try without any investigation…they said treat this instance as a freak accident. I want to know if that is okay…at ill have a month before we start trying and if I must do the leparoscopy, i would like to get done with it now than later…

Hi polka dots, I’m still in the throws of expectant management, HCG was 12 at last count so hopefully by next week it will be zero! Did they scan you again at that point? I’ve only had one scan which was when they diagnosed me - plenty of blood & blood pressure taken though! My doc seemed to think after first AF is fine to try & same thing around it being an unfortunate accident. Being the control freak I am this doesn’t sit well with me and I’d like some firmer answers around reasons why and be really clear on risks etc. I’ve read about the HSG test which I’m going to talk to my doctor about - have you had any discussions around that polka dot? In some ways I think expectant management is doubly hard (though have no comparison) cause you’re just waiting with no clear answers on what’s happening inside

Hi Danielle, hope you are doing much better now. I’m are your hcg muSt be negative by now. Did the af arrive? And do you have the ectopic sac still?

I have decided not to do the hsg. We plan to try for a ccouple of months and if we don’t conceive in these couple of months then we will consider it.
