6 months post methotrexate-mass still there.Advice needed

Hi,

I just had a scan which showed that the mass is still there as a cyst. It measures 25mmx25mm. I just have mild pain when I am ovulating or expecting my period otherwise i would notice. I am planned to start TTC next cycle. The doctor told me that there is no problem to start trying because this tube is not working and there is no extra risk to suffer an ectopic on this site. Doctor said that the tube will be removed if I am suffering pain. I would like to know if anyone has had a similar situation to me. I would really like any type of adivice. Thanks, Tere.

Dear Tere,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

Unfortunately I am not medically trained and with such limited information it is difficult to provide advice in your specific situation.

If you consultant says it is ok to try and conceive again, then follow their advice but it will be very important to have an early scan. As soon as you know you are pregnant, contact your local EPU to inform them and book in for an early scan at around six weeks. Remind them of your previous ectopic pregnancy. This self refer route is the best route in our view. Hopefully you will have some comfort to know you are under the radar of medical professionals right away.

Generally, the time it takes to conceive successfully after an ectopic pregnancy varies considerably from couple to couple. This can be affected by factors including age, general health, reproductive health and how often you have intercourse (sex). Overall, 65% of women are healthily pregnant within 18 months of an ectopic pregnancy. Some studies suggest this figure rises to around 85% over two years.

Chances are that you can go on to conceive successfully after an ectopic pregnancy and this doesn’t vary significantly across treatment routes whether expectant management/medical management or surgical management.

Given that you have been diagnosed with a cyst, we would advise discussing trying to conceive timeframes in more detail with your consultant. What sort of timeframe would they want for you to try to conceive naturally without success before seeing you again given they’ve diagnosed a cyst? and would you need a separate referral for this.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Hi Karen,

Thanks for your quick reply. I have been told to try until December. If I do not get pregnant by then, we will start with other options. However, I need to go for a scan in 3 months to see that the cyst is stable.

My doctor is In Spain,a private consultant. I do not need any referral. Best wishes,

Tere
