2ND METHOTREXATE SHOT - LEVELS DECLINING SO SLOWLY - SO WORRIED!

Hey guys,

I just had my follow-up blood test (five days after) my second methotrexate shot, and it’s only dropped by 87! I’m so shocked!

My OB is in surgery all day so I got this result via email from a nurse who said I’m not to worry and I just need a blood test next week. But obviously, I am so worried about this slow decline after my second shot. And I can’t even speak to my OB about it.

Has anyone else had a really slow decline and been fine?

I’m going into my fifth week of this hell, and I’m really really struggling now :frowning:

I feel I’m making no progress at all!

My levels are below:

Nov 12th - Day of MTX - 768

Nov 16th - 1259

Nov 19th - 1158

Nov 26th/day of MTX round 2 - 1042

1st Dec- 955

This is by far the worst thing I’ve ever been through - sending my love to everyone else who is suffering x

Hi am so sorry you’re going through this ! I’ve just had my 1st round yesterday so I’m unsure about this but I hope they start to decline faster now for you :crossed_fingers:t3:. What has your pain and bleeding been like since mtx ?

This is such a whirlwind experience and I can definitely sympathise with you and I hope it all settles asap xx

Hey Emma,

So lovely to hear from you and I’m so sorry you’re going through this too!

After the first round I had barely any symptoms, and no bleeding. Second round much worse pain and more bleeding, but it’s more spotting not heavy at all.

How are you feeling? What were your levels when you got the shot? Mine were already quite high.

Sending you all the love xxx

Hey! That’s a shame I hope your feeling a bit better, I’ve had some cramping and light period like bleeding but they said that normal, I hope that means it’s working :crossed_fingers:t3: mine were 1600 odd I’m sure, they had come down then rose again and that’s why I got it ! The most awful experience I’ve ever been through so I can totally sympathise with you xx

Dear maddylouise,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,

I understand how worrying it is when we don’t know what is going on with our bodies.

I am afraid it is difficult to predict how long it will take for your hormone levels reach non-pregnant levels. As we are all individual, our bodies respond differently to the drug and it depends on factors like how high levels reached and our unique physiology. What I can say is that it can take a number of weeks and, while it can take some time and feel very slow, it is not as invasive a procedure as surgery. It is also encouraging that your levels are falling although I appreciate that it can be a drawn out process. Also, in terms of chances of future successful pregnancies, studies do not show a significant difference between treatment routes, whether surgical, medical using methotrexate or expectant management (allowing time for the body to resolve the pregnancy itself).

As others have kindly suggested, it is important to monitor your symptoms and please seek urgent medical advice with any worsening bleeding, pain or you develop shoulder tip pain or feel dizzy and unwell.

I will send positive thoughts for a bigger drop on your next blood test.

Sending much love,

Karen x
