Hi everyone x
I know there are lots of “my story” posts and I love to read through them, so hopefully no one will mind me adding my own to the collection. To be honest, I find that it helps to process what has happened, seeing it all written down in chronological order. Everything happens so quickly that no sooner are you admitted to hospital, you’re at home trying to recover!!
Last Tuesday, laying in bed I experienced horrific stabbing pains in my right iliac fossa region. They woke me from my sleep and had me rolling around the bed in agony. I then went to the loo and noticed that I was bleeding (sorry if that is TMI  ).
Not wanting to trouble an ambulance, I phoned 111 who told me that they were going to send an ambulance right away. An hour later, the 999 control room phoned and went through all of my symptoms- I gave them the same answers that I had given 111 but the control room told me that an ambulance wasn’t necessary and instead to wait for an out of hours Dr. I took some codeine and waited for him to call.
2 hours later the out oh hours Dr phoned and by this time it was about 7am and the pains were beginning to subside. He told me to wait until my GP surgery opened and to go and see my GP as an emergency appointment which I did.
GP told me that there wasn’t really much she could suggest as the pain had died down and I had no other symptoms of appendicitis other than right sided lower abdominal pain, but to call 999 directly should this happen again. She suggested that it could also be simple mid-cycle pain.
By Tuesday night I was feeling fine!! Went to work as normal Wednesday and Thursday and had no problems really, other than a few pains in my bottom which I put down to IBS (later to learn this was because of the internal bleeding in the pelvis!)
Thursday night the pains and bleeding started again, this time worse than before. OMG they were so bad I could barely walk or speak, all I could do was roll around my bed in agony. Phoned 999 again in tears, stressing that this really was 10/10 pain and that it was unbearable. Again, they told me that I didn’t need an ambulance but to wait for a call from an out of hours Doctor. Again, 2 hours later the OOH Dr phoned but this one told me that he was sorry I couldn’t have an ambulance and to get a taxi to A+E.
Eventually made my way to A+E where they did blood and urine tests and told me I was pregnant. This was a shock because although we had been trying, I had done SEVERAL pregnancy tests in the week which were all negative.
The rest of my experience is very much similar to a lot of others- had an internal scan and they found a lot of blood in the pelvis, went down for surgery same day and they removed the baby and my ruptured right fallopian tube.
My family and friends have been an incredible support- my boyfriend was in a different country for the duration (left the day I was admitted and came home the day I was discharged!) but honestly I have been so blessed to have them.
Sorry that’s a bit of an essay to get through but like I said it just really helps to write it all down.
The stupid thing is, and this makes no sense whatsoever because I know it’s stupid- I am a nurse myself so should know better- I cant help the creeping thoughts that this is related in someway to things I have been doing ? I am a runner- could it have been caused by that? Could it be because we bought a hot tub and I have been spending lots of time in it? Honestly, I KNOW that these things couldn’t have caused this to happen but they just sit at the back of mind
I cannot believe how long that post turned out lol, sorry!!
