No Period 6 weeks out from Met.Shot Should I be concerned?

This past November I had found out I was pregnant. My scheduled period I started bleeding heavily and went ER. They said they saw no signs of pregnancy and said I could have had a miscarriage. Follow up appointments I was told my levels were going up and a sac was seen. After following up from there the sac was not growing and there was no baby either. I was told to get the shot. On December 14th I received the shot. Days weeks later I was spotting here and there but no big period or heavy period as I was told I was going to experience. Now here I am 6 weeks later and still nothing. No bleeding no cramps no period. I was getting my blood taken and my hcg levels were dropping but I have not been to dr since. Should I be worried? My fiancé and I have been having sex since. Should I take a test? I greatly appreciate any ones feedback

Hi Stephanie4187,

I’m sorry to hear of the worrying time you’ve been going through and will do my best to help.

As you’ve had a methotrexate shot, it is very important to continue with the blood work and following up with your doctor to ensure your hcg levels continue to fall. Only once they are under 5mIU/ml you are considered no longer pregnant. You should avoid penetrative sex until after levels are non-pregnant. Some women do not bleed after mtx treatment. It is not uncommon for women who have been treated with methotrexate not to have any bleeding.

After levels non pregnant, should take folic acid for 12 weeks before trying to conceive. This is important as shortage of folate could lead to neutral tube defects in a developing embryo and the supplement is needed for the healthy development of the embryo. Before that point, should use contraception (can link section on our website).

Please do take good care of yourself and as you are concerned it is important to be seen by your Dr’s for peace of mind.

With good wishes,

Michele
