How quickly was your EP Diagnosed?

When I had my EP I was in hosital 4 days before being diagnosed! I nearly died and lost 5 pints of blood! Only because of my Mum complaining did I get to see a Specialist then I was rushed to theatre! I was wondering how often this type of thing happens.

PS - Im just coming to the end of my Legal Action against the hospital now!! Dont let them get away with it!!!

How quickly was your EP Diagnosed?
  • By my GP the same day
  • At the hospital the same day
  • They sent me home then pains got worse
  • After 2 days in hospital
  • After 3 days in hospital
  • After 4 days in hospital
  • After 5+ days in hospital

hi just read your post i had similar i went to hopspital with pain dizziness all the classic signs of an ectopic and they sent me home i also went to gp and he sent me home i collapsed at home i lost 6 pints of blood and i went into cardiac arrest 3 times they said if the ambulance had arrived five minutes later and i would have died. i have just started taking legal action i got an appointment with a solicitor on 25/06. how did you get on with your case :?: im sorry to hear what happened to you its hard enough to go through an ep. well done that you didnt let them get away with it. hope your feeling better now. x

Arr thanks. Im getting there! So sorry to hear you had to go through similar. It makes it so much harder to get over!

I wont lie to you the legal action did keep it in my mind all the time. But I wouldn’t change a thing!! They cannot get away with it.

So glad your taking legal action too. Well done you.

If you need any advice give me a shout!! Not sure how I can go about it, but your welcome to have my Email address!

What advice have you had so far? My Mother-in-law used to the Cheif Exec at the CHC’s (They USED to deal with complaints about NHS until the government abolished them all) so she gave me a LOT of excellent advice.

The 1st thing I did was go to AVMA (Action for Victims of Medical Accidents). They are a charity & they put me in contact with an excellent solicitor in Manchester who had dealt with similar cases. Where abouts in the counrty are you? If your local ish to Manchester I will give you the details!

AVMA’s website is www.avma.org.uk.

Good luck with it all (And dont forget if you want any advice or just a moan give me a shout, Let me know if you want my email & I will see what I can do) xxx

I picked they sent me home and the pains got worse, but that’s not 100% true for me. I got sent home and the pains stayed the same and then got better. I actually went to the hospital because I felt like I was going to pass out a week later!

I’ve not been able to vote because I was referred by my GP to hospital (wrong Unit) on the Monday because I was spotting, told to go back on the Wednesday to EPAU, had scan and bloods, then went back on the Friday and was admitted with suspected EP. Spotting and a sense things weren’t right were my only symptoms. I ruptured during surgery on the Saturday afternoon, so lucky to be in a safe place and safe hands.

I had bloods Friday , Sunday and Tuesday and then Injection on Wednesday so never did any overnight stops.

I rang my GP on the Wed. Made appointment on the Fri - where I was referred to the EPU the following Monday. Come Monday I had internal and external scans and bloods. Wednedsday had bloods again. Thursday got called in and had internal and external scan again plus another internal and more bloods. Got told to go back on Friday for more bloods…which is where a registrar said it’s definitely ectopic - so 5 hours later had my op!

Straight away with me.

I had lost loads of blood, seriously anaemic, fainting etc, etc.

Mind you, I wasn’t diagnosed until the consultant came in. The gynae who saw me first said the baby was in my womb… sadly, it wasnt.

Don’t think I can vote either,

I had bloods done and was sent home. The hospital told me my nuimbers were multiplying as they should be.

It wasn’t until a week later my ectopic was finally diagnosed and I was in theatre the same afternoon.

I don’t really fit either as I first had concerns at about 5 weeks, had 2 bhcg done and was told everything was fine. ^ weeks later I started to bleed really heavily and had 2 episodes of severe pain. Was seen for more bloods and scan and was taken into hospital at 11 weeks, 2 days after first bloods. Spent a night in before I was operated on.

Doesn’t seem to be any set pattern to how dx!

I don’t really fit either. I was in and out of hospital for over a week, getting hcgs/scans/d & c etc.

They thought it was just a miscarriage for a week but when d & c didn’t drop my levels enough I was back in for further investigations.

In fact, I still don’t have the diagnosis of an EP as they never found the little blighter!

3 weeks after the pains and bleeding began!

Hi, I was told over a 3 week period that all my pain and discharge was normal and I had 3 scans. It wasn’t until a passed out in pain at home and my mum rang an ambulance at 11am. They eventually took me to surgery about 2am the next day.By that point I had ruptured lost 6 pints of blood and very nearly died.I was 16 weeks pregnant.I’m hoping to start legal procedings too. I have found it hard to find a firm that wants to deal with it though they all seem a bit scared.

When I had my ep i called nhs 24 on the friday they said that there was no way i could be pg as i was bleeding! they were reluctant to send me to hospital but i demanded i wanted to go. When I got there i was told it was a threatened misscarriage to go home and they would get me back after the weekend. someone was to call on he monday but didn’t so I called them i had to get bloods done as the midwife said that i wasnt as far as i said i was but the hcg levels were as high as i expected and i was brought in for a scan on the tues then kept in. i was 7 weeks and 1 day but the midwife thought before hcg was done i was only 3 weeks but I knew different and never got an apology

I’ve put “at the hospital same day” but that was only because of spotting that I asked my GP to arrange an early scan (thought it could be another miscarriage as I had no other ectopic signs). when I had the scan at the hospital they immediately picked up it was an ectopic and admitted me immediately.

I chose at the hospital the same day. I did have some pain the week before which then subsided, but on the morning i went to A&E (7 weeks pregnant) i couldn’t stand up straight, was heaving, felt sick and dizzy and couldn’t stop yawning. once confirmed by the scan the first nurse i hd seen told me she suspected it as soon as she saw the way i was struggling to walk, and when she found that my blood pressure had dropped so low it wasn’t registering (because of internal bleeding from rupture).

i guess the more it has progressed towards rupture the more likely to be diagnosed on the day, but i know that’s not always the case. The treatment i got at my local A&E (Harlow)was fantastic - i am eternally grateful to the people who looked after me that day.

For myself it was an immediate diagnosis.

I was rushed into hospital and in the operating theatre within 30mins. Didn’t even have time to sign a medical consent before i fell unconcious.

My first ectopic doesn’t fit either.

Ectopic 1. Brown spotting for over a week. Doctors visits to check Hcg. Went in for a D&C which showed nothing. One week later back for a check up with increasing pain and finally had surgery for ectopic. Very low Hcg levels but all up about 2 weeks before diagnosis. It was just starting to leak when they got to it.

Ectopic 2. Rupture. Rushed to hospital. Diagnosed same day (although after many agonising hours). Have voted this but they had the advantage of knowing I was a bigger risk for ectopic this time.

Yep I don’t fit into any of these categories either. I started bleeding on a friday went to GP on tuesday had scan on wednesday and bloods taken, was phoned the following monday for another scan on tuesday and more bloods, scanned again on Wednesday and had methotrexate so 8 days from first gp appointment to treatment then 9 days after methotrexate had surgery. Had one night in hospital after metho and 3 nights in hospital after surgery.

i voted in hospital

but actually it took four days

i went to the drs with a neverending period, and he said i was pregnant!

over the moon, me, but still worried for the bleedin and pain seemed to increase

he said not to worry every day i called in

til friday, i went to see him, told him i couldn t even ride my bike anymore and whether it was still considered normal pain for the egg to just settle down.

he said no, send me to the er, and actually thought of an appendicitis. in hindsight he said he didn t want to worry me.

that helped.

pah.
