Four weeks post-surgery

Hi

I would like to thank everyone who posts to this site. I have found it very helpful reading other people’s experiences and thought I would share mine. Hoping it will help the healing process…

My husband and I were over the moon to discover we were pregnant just before Christmas after several years trying to conceive.

I had pain on and off in the right of my abdomen for a few days and went to a&e on 13/1/12. Doc said I was fine, but did not send me for a scan or check hormone levels. I trusted her, so when the pain continued I thought it was ok.

On 26/1/12 (almost 10 weeks pregnant by that stage) I had a small amount of bleeding and was referrred to the Early Pregnancy Unit at my local hospital. My husband was working away so I went along to the unit on my own, where unfortunately they discovered that I had an ectopic pregnancy. I just kept crying for the next few hours while I waited for my husband to get home.

They took me down to surgery a couple of hours later where they found that my right tube had ruptured and had to be removed. I had some internal bleeding so I feel lucky to have got to got to hospital when I did. I got home the next day.

I couldn’t stand the thought of seeing or speaking to anyone except my husband for the first couple of weeks. He has been absolutely amazing. Just seems to know when I need a hug or when to leave me alone. I’m starting to spend more time with close friends and family now and have been fortunate that they, as well as my GP and employer, have all been very sympathetic and supportive. Hopefully going back to work on Monday.

Although I often feel negative and worried about the future I still have hope that we will be parents one day (although I will be 40 later this year and I know that the chances aren’t great).

Thanks for taking the time to read my story,

B x
