Bleeding

Hi, I found out I had an ectopic pregnancy in Jan 23 and was discharged after MXT treatment in March 23. I fell pregnant again in June. EPU got me in for an early scan but it was too early to see anything. They took bloods and they more than doubled in 48 hours, which they said was good and more than likely in the womb. However, I have been brown/dark brown spotting for over a week now and v. worried. EPU say that if it gets worse or I have pain, then I should get in touch. It has stayed spotting all the way through, just changes from light to dark brown and the occasional pink. I am beside myself with worry. I have a scan on Weds when they will hopefully see sac. Do my bloods eliminate ectopic? Is it normal to spot for so long during a normal pregnancy? Thanks

Hi I had this with my second pregnancy. She is now 4! The spotting lasted around a week and was very similar and it was implantation. I had a scan 2 weeks later and they found the small sack where it should be

I’d push for an ultrasound if you can. For peace of mind too. But bleeding is fairly common in the first trimester. Just keep an eye on it and keep an eye out for pain. Everything crossed for you :sparkling_heart:

Thanks for you reply. I really hope all is well but I am preparing for the worst. I had implanation bleeding for 3 days when my period was due, so that’s why I took a test. Then I had no spotting for a week, then the spotting came back and is prolonged and dark. Would this still be implantation? I’m doubtful.

I am just waiting for the worst to happen as the spotting isn’t easing, but also isn’t getting worse. I still have tender breasts which I’m taking as a glimmer of hope.

Finding the waiting for my scan torture.

Thank you for your good wishes.

Dear Suzie,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy, and I am sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through.

I’m glad you hCG blood doubled, that is positive but doesn’t tell a complete picture. A positive identification of a pregnancy on a scan is the only way to exclude ectopic pregnancy. If you are bleeding, It is disappointing to hear that they haven’t offered you a scan already. I am glad to hear you have one booked in for Wednesday but please seek urgent medical advice with any worsening bleeding or pain or you develop shoulder tip pain or feel dizzy and unwell.

We will be keeping everything crossed for your scan and sending positive thoughts,

Much love,

Karen x
